YWCA Rising Stars are a dynamic group of younger professional women nominated by members of the YWCA Academy of Career Women of Achievement in recognition of their leadership qualities and potential to attain career achievement. Rising Stars join a network of recipients with access to exclusive mentoring, networking, and educational opportunities.
The YWCA Rising Stars Award was created by the members of the YWCA Academy of Career Women of Achievement. One of the goals of the Academy is to “lift as we climb.” In 2002, the Academy introduced the Rising Stars Award as a vehicle to recognize and support younger career women who will become our city’s future leaders. By giving the Rising Stars the opportunity for ongoing interaction and networking with career women of diverse backgrounds, this award provides these younger leaders with the opportunity to enhance their pursuit of excellence in their careers.
YWCA Academy and Board members nominate career women ages 25-40 as Rising Stars. Nomination criteria include having the qualities of an outstanding performer and demonstrating a potential to attain marked achievement in her chosen career. Specifically, Rising Stars are identified as professional women with proven leadership qualities who would benefit from interaction with Academy members and other Rising Stars.
All Rising Stars are invited to participate in exclusive events, open only to YWCA Academy members, YWCA Board members, and Rising Stars, creating the opportunity for close interaction among these groups.
Each fall, the new class of Rising Stars attends roundtable discussions facilitated by members of the Academy. This event allows for meaningful discussion of issues facing young career women. Rising Stars also are invited to volunteer and social/networking events, and other unique opportunities at the YWCA.
In 2006, YWCA Greater Cincinnati implemented the Rising Stars Leadership Program, which prepares Rising Stars to serve on non-profit boards and act as equity leaders within the community.
