YWCA Greater Cincinnati

"140 years of Care, Concern and Commitment" recognizes our strong and courageous history. Our mission of the elimination of racism and the empowerment of women sustains our bold vision as we to dare to embrace two of the most significant social issues of our time. Founded by women for women, the YWCA has been a leading force for social change. Whatever the issue to advance women’s status and promote racial justice, the YWCA fought for it. Whatever the need for support and services, the YWCA provided it. From its very beginning the YWCA has sought to improve women’s lives and ensure equitable treatment for all.

In 1868 our organization began by providing women, migrating from rural areas looking for employment, with shelter, education and job opportunities. As the years progressed, so did the YWCA. We worked for minimum wages for women, championed protective labor laws for women and children and advocated for women's suffrage.
Today, we are leading the charge for women to have a greater sense of their own empowerment and to develop women as leaders. We are working to improve race relations, further racial justice and to end violence against women. We provide shelters and transitional housing for battered women, a program for men who abuse women, employment and literacy programs, childcare, family violence prevention, health and wellness programs and recognition and advocacy programs.

As our community changes it is vital to include and value the female voice. As an organization committed to social change, the YWCA has provided that voice and will continue to bring that perspective to our community.
